Equine Coronavirus

Equine Coronavirus (ECoV) is and RNA virus that cause respiratory and enteric diseases. Currently, outbreaks of this virus has been reported in horses stabled in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Texas and Wisconsin. Typically, this disease affects mostly adult horses (ages 1-32 years) and 20-57% of those with ECoV showed clinical signs of the disease.

Often the disease is self-limiting in adult horses and the course is run in 1-4 days. Other complications of the disease is GI tract translocation that may result in diarrhea or colic. Mortality is low. There is not a vaccine currently available.
